The traditional fashion rule of not wearing white between Labor Day and Memorial Day most likely dates back to the early 1900’s. Fashionistas through the ages have questioned and challenged this “rule,” because 1) we like to question rules, and 2) no one to date has provided any solid evidence of this rule’s origin, or that it’s really even a RULE! We all just know it, right? Like cleanliness is next to Godliness, and we shouldn’t throw babies out with bathwater…
Whatever.
Coco Chanel famously challenged the fashion rule by daring to wear white suits year-round. I’m no Coco Chanel (swoon!), but if she can do it under such scrutinizing spotlights and press, the rest of us should stop worrying and just wear whatever colors we want!
I still get looks when I wear white jeans around town. Gasp, the horror! And you should hear the comments when I wear white shoes… Not that they’re even remotely practical during slushy, rainy, muddy winters, but I’ve done it anyhow, just for the heck of it. Sometimes you wear what you feel!
Be yourself.
Be-YOU-tiful!
And wear what makes you happy! Like I always say: Fashion is what you wear, Style is how you wear it.
Go forth and rock your style, Trouble Maker!
XOXO,
Tanya
