remember this bob?
I rocked a magenta short bob for quite a few years, and have to admit, I miss it sometimes. But I’m a girl who loves change! Like, e v e r y – d a r n – d a y. It drove me a little crazy that I couldn’t “do” anything with my bob – it just was what it was! Short, shiny, classy… But always exactly the same.

So I tried to swap the magenta for blue, and it was really hard on my hair. Apparently, years of dying your hair one color group makes it really tough to switch to another! For a short while I rocked a black bob with blue ends.

I did my best with it, but found that the blue faded SO FAST. On a trip to Germany last summer, the hard hotel water turned my hair brassy brown, and stripped the blue to green & muddy grey in about a week. I needed to find another solution, and grow out the damage that all the bleaching had done to my poor frizzled bob.stylespygirl dagstuhlBut how to you grow your hair out fast, AND get the color you want? Ta-da: EXTENSIONS! They’re magic, and I love them. Thanks to my Babe Tape-in Extensions, I’ve been able to leave my hair alone, let it recover and grow, and achieve a level of blue ombre that would have destroyed my natural hair with bleaches and dyes. I know some people think extensions are weird, but I’ve been playing with extra hair pieces since I was a teenager and found my mother’s “braids” that she wore in the 60’s to amp up her style! Women have been utilizing hair that didn’t come from their own heads for centuries, back to even the ancient Egyptians who shaved their heads for work in the hot sun, but threw on piles of waxed braids to go out & party.

There are many different kinds of extensions on the market right now, like braiding and weaves, clip-in and keratin fusion. It would be too long to list them all here, but I found a great guide if you’re researching what might work best for you: http://hairextensionguide.com/Hair-Extensions.htm

Local stylist Jennifer Engberg at Turning Heads Studio is a “BABE HAIR” extension professional with years of training. She uses tape-in Babe extensions for my colorful long pieces, and thanks to her skill, experience, and creativity, my chin-length bob has grown twice it’s original length! No damaging heats or glues are used in her process, so my hair feels healthy and strong. stylespygirl hair extensions 3

Jennifer created a gorgeous ombre blue effect, which starts as navy at the top, moves down to electric blue, fades to pastel blue, and finally a hint of whitish silver at the bottom. stylespygirl hair extensions 4By carefully taping the wefts to my own hair throughout my head, Jennifer brings length, fullness, and gorgeous color into my overall style. stylespygirl hair extensions 6

It’s been such a delight to get to know this beautiful, creative genius of a woman, and I’m grateful for her help in creating this dramatic new look for me. retro hunny plaid dressPhoto by Valerie Davenport

  2. I have thick wavy hair that my mom couldnt brush through without me screaming as a kid. As a result she made me cut my hair short. Now im dead set on having “disney princess” hair once in my life. My dream hair is long, curled and flowing. Funky colors would be fun temporarily too!

  3. I could use a professional do….that’s an understatement! I haven’t had it cut or colored in over a year. The grey is coming through loud and proud. I always find the time and money to keep my kids taken care of but always leave myself for last. This mama needs some hair love!

  5. I have darker hair but I tried a dark red (from a dark brown) and loved it!! It all grew out though so I’d love to try a more vibrant red maybe this time!

  6. My dream hair would be anything that would hold off the gray for longer than a few weeks! 🙂 It’s shoulder length now, but am thinking of going drastic for Fall with shorter and more warm tones! Always taking care of everyone else at home and work, would be nice to be spoiled for once!

  7. My DREAM hair would be some extensions! I cut my hair pretty short a while ago, and just like you Tanya, I miss being able to do something with it! I have natural beautiful beach waves and I miss having the length to do different things. I’d also love to do a silver/lavender hair color. I’ve always loved the way it would look and with my skin tone!
I work so much and run my own business out of home I don’t have much time to pamper myself and much less do my make up anymore. I’d love a little girl time! ❤️

  8. I’m currently trying to dye my hair silver/grey, and it’s just now working! Plus, it fried my extensions, I’m so sad!

  9. I would love to have a hair style that works for my thin, fine hair. Blue or purple would be great…if only my employer would get on board!

  10. My dream has always been to have “mermaid” hair. But in the past few years I’ve gotten sicker and sicker and my hair has gotten so much thinner that I’m too embarrassed to do anything with it but leave it down and boring. I’m in need for a new look so I’d be willing to handle over all the power over to the stylist. Please pick me so I can have confidence in my hair again:)

  11. I would love long locks. My hair was so over processed I had to go short two years ago. It is finally healthy and getting longer, but mid-back is my goal. I love being a redhead.

  12. Over the years I have truly found total love for my big curly hair. I guess if anything I do enjoy having it straightened once in a while it is fun to change things up.

  13. Dream hair? Just keeping my own would be nice. I have a 10 week old baby and am expecting next month to lose tons of my hair like I have after all my other pregnancies. 😦 So, if I’m chosen, I will ask for professional help with making my hair loss less noticeable! Thanks!

  14. My favorite “do” is something that is chic, sassy, with a bit of edge that I am able to recreate at home — That seems to be my challenge:)

  15. It’s a work in progress. I would like to dye my hair half black and with opinion or desire to do other colors as the other half.

  16. I’d love to try balayage on my dark hair! I don’t have FB but if I did I would certainly like both pages if I did! I hope that doesn’t prevent me from entering the contest. Thanks for the opportunity! 🙂

  17. My DREAM hair would be Khloe Kardashian’s long, gorgeous ombré! I daydream over photos of it. I mean, obviously my second dream hair would be long and bright red like Ariel, but I love the look of the long hair with a killer ombré or balayage. I have been trying to grow my hair out for years but always end up chopping it when it gets close. Not anymore! Now especially after this post I’m determined to get the hair of my dreams! 😍 Oh please, StyleSpy Girl. Make my dreams come true! Xo
